[lateinisch »vielfach«] das, -(es)/-e, Freizeitzentrum, in dem der Filmtheaterbetrieb mit mehreren Zuschauersälen in einem Zweckbau zusammen mit anderen Freizeitangeboten, Läden und gastronomischen Einrichtungen betrieben wird. Das Platzangebot liegt etwa zwischen 1 700 und 5 000 Sitzen; neben hohen Standards bei Raumgestaltung, Ausstattung und Technik des Multiplex sind allgemein technische Voraussetzungen der Kinosäle u. a. Arenaseating (wie im Amphitheater angeordnete Sitzreihen), große gekrümmte Leinwand, neuester technischer Stand der Projektion (THX, Dolby SR).
